• At least 12 hr overnight fasting is required before drawing sample in plain vial. Diet before should be routine normal diet not excessive in fats.

Significance of test
Cholesterol travels through the blood with proteins called lipoproteins. Two types of lipoproteins carry cholesterol:
Low density lipoprotein (LDL) major part of total cholesterol. High levels of LDL cholesterol raise the risk for atherosclerosis and heart diseases.
High-density lipoprotein (HDL) carries cholesterol from periphery to the liver. High levels of HDL cholesterol can lower the risk for atherosclerosis and heart diseases.
