Significance of test
Reticulocyte count is raised in-
Hemolytic anemias (with effective erythropoesis).
Following acute blood loss.
After iron therapy for iron deficiency anemias or specific therapy for megaloblastic anemias Reticulucyte response is higher with hemolysis than haemorrhage.
Reticulocyte count decreased in-
Ineffective erythropoiesis.
Decreased production of red blood cells.
