Significance of test
Important role of vitamin D is maintaining homeostasis of calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D deficiency may lead to problems of skeletal system, such as bone turnover, progressive bone loss and osteoporosis. Recent studies have discovered the vitamin D receptor in other tissues and organs, which suggest that vitamin D may also be important in non-skeletal biological processes and associate vitamin D deficiency with increased risk for cancer, autoimmune disease, cardiovascular disease, and many chronic diseases.
